*WARNING: I'm NOT trying to make fun of the Stanford Experiment. It's often used as one of the main examples of experiment involving humans that have failed to adhere to ethical standards. However, in consideration that Hetalia itself is based some parts of the history that is filled with numerous atrocities, I ask that you take everything here with an open mind.

*Note: For those of you that don't know, the short version is that a group of volunteers were assigned two roles; Prison guard or prisoners. Wikipedia said the experiment was done to study the psychological effects of either role on people. With that being said, I would still encourage you to look it up as it is something I believe everyone should know about. I cannot tell you if the movie is a good source since I haven't watched it myself, at least not at the point when I wrote this story.

Now that I got everything out of the way, let the story begin!

The Stanford Prison Experiment
Allies x Reader

You never thought signing your name on a few documents would lead to your current predicament.

You had been brushing your teeth when the door bell suddenly rang loudly and repeatedly, causing you almost drop your toothbrush. You quickly rinsed your mouth out and almost stumbled in your hurry to get the door.

Just as you were about to tell the person outside off for being so rude, you opened the door to reveal three police officers dressed in black uniforms crowding at your porch.

"My apologies for disturbing your rest, (Name)-san, we are here to-"

"Ve, morning, (Name)!" The Japanese's officer's mumbling was interrupted and your eyes widened as one of the other two officers, the one with a strange curl, came flying toward you.

Luckily, he was stopped by the tall, blond officer that was with him.

"(Name), you are under arrest!" Shouted the third officer with a thick German accent while he struggled to stop his companion from coming to hug you.

"... Huh?" was all you could say after a moment of stunned silence.

The blond officer flashed you his police badge, and the corner of your eyes twitched at what you saw.

What a crudely made badge...

"Ok," you decided to play along, "just let me change out of my pajama."

Before you could turn around to go back into your home, you heard a click and felt your arm being yanked. You looked back and nearly gaped at the shiny handcuff on one of your wrists.

"Wh-What?"

"Mr. Ger- I  mean, Mr. Beilschmidt, shouldn't we give (Name) sometime to get ready?"

"Nein, the experiment start now. (Name), you have the right to be silent, now come."

He half-dragged you out of your home and cuffed your other wrist behind you.

You looked around nervously, hoping no neighbour has spotted that you were walking outside in your pajama, arrested by three people that looked a lot like police officers.

You have to admit, you were impressed to see that they have gotten a real police car to arrest people in as you were escorted toward it.

Though the German officer had seemed intimidating, he turned out to be quite the gentleman when he put his hand on top edge of the door so you wouldn't accidently hit your head when you get in.

The whole way driving to the station had been the opposite of what you saw in movies. The Italian officer, Feliciano, as he introduced himself (before introducing the two others as well), had his body turned around to chat with you the entire way; Kiku would sometimes comment on one or two things as well. Once or twice during the drive, Ludwig would demand for silence, but eventually, he gave up, so you chatted away with your fellow experiment subjects.

You soon arrive at the station and you were given a prisoner garment, the quality and style of which seemed pretty legitimate to you.

-

You sat in the cell alone, feeling bored now that there's nothing like computers or your phone to entertain you.

In the back of your mind, you were also made very uncomfortable by the knowledge that your prison door is actually locked: that you can't just open it and leave at will even though you have not committed a crime that should result in your imprisonment.

Experiment or not, this uncanny resemblance to the real situation was beginning to creep you out.

In the beginning, you had seen several new prisoners being escorted into their respective cell by Ludwig, but now things seem to have quieted down. You tried to remember them in your head based on their accents:

There was a British man who insisted that he can walk on his own and you couldn't help but notice his enormous eyebrows;

A Russian man who smiled the whole time and commented about what would happen if he was the officer...

A French man who laughed nasally and accused Luwig of putting his hand in the wrong spot during the arrest, causing the German officer to become flustered;

An Asian man who complained that he has yet to feed his panda at home;

And finally, an Ameri-

"Kiku! Kiiiiiiiikkkkkkuuuuu!" Said American called loudly from across the aisle, "I want some burgers, can you get me some?"

"Aya, Alfred, you are supposed to act like a prisoner, aru."

The American pouted in the direction of his neighbour.

"But Yao, I'm hungry-"

"I hid some scones before I was arrested," you heard a British accent from the cell to your right.

In response, the American let out an unmanly squeal and shook his head frantically.

"If only I could cook in prison, my magnificent cuisine woul-"

"Shut up, frog!"

The familiarity at which they addressed each other made you wonder if they already knew each other. Not wanting to be left out, you spoke up.

"I- er, my name is (Name)!" You said quickly, just as your cellmate to the left was about to retort in response to the British man's insult.

"Ohonhon, I see this is not an all men's prison. My name is Francis, you can call me big brother. What is your name, beautiful girl?" Your heard a voice from the cell to your left and smiled nervously.

You couldn't believe you were the only female in this experiment, at least for the ones selected to be prisoners, it would seem so far.

"Quit harassing her, frog. I'm Arthur by the way, Arthur Kirkland."

"Hello, Arthur and Francis," you replied, earning a chuckle from Francis.

"Hi (Name)!"

You saw the American in the cell across from you waving and you waved back just as happily.

"She's so cute, aru!"

You blushed and smiled at the Asian man.

"I'm Ivan, nice to meet you, (Name), we'll be good friends, da?" You nodded at the Russian man whose cell is on the other side of Alfred's cell.

"I didn't know you were here, Ivan, you've been so quiet," the American said and laughed at himself. You shuddered when you noticed the Russian's aura began to darken.

It's nice to see that your prison mates are so welcoming. They made sure to include you in every conversation they had after and insulted each other a lot less than before you had butt in.

-

Time passed rather fast in the company of your new friends; it wasn't physical company since you were each imprisoned in your own cell, but it didn't make much of a difference since you had been engaged in conversation continuously. Plus, you could see three of them across the aisle, with Alfred giving you a thumb up every time he claims that he's the hero.

It felt that only a short while has passed when Feliciano came to announce that it was time for them to turn off the light and for everyone to sleep- Not that Feliciano acted in any manner or form like an officer though, because he went around offering to cook pasta for everyone as a snack if they want to stay up later.

You had trouble stopping yourself from laughing when Ludwig showed up behind Feliciano when the Italian was flirting with you.

The German officer simple rolled his eyes and dragged his fellow officer away by his collar.

You would have mistaken the experiment for adult day camp if not for what's to come.

-

"Move it!" Ludwig shouted and blew on his whistle loudly.

The sky was only showing a hint of dawn when the six of you were woken up and made to do a morning run.

You wheezed as you forced yourself to run up the hill you were currently challenged with. You had seen a whip at Ludwig's hip when you passed him earlier and wondered if he would use it.

"This is so tiresome, aru," the Asian man grumbled under his breath next to you.

Ahead of you, Alfred laughed loudly. It's amazing to you how he managed to run the rough terrain so easily without even losing his breath.

"Brat," Arthur painted lightly in front of you. Francis turned around and gave you a sympathetic look.

It would seem that out of all of you, you have the most trouble keeping up with the group, despite them consciously putting you in the middle to help support you.

"I'm beginning to miss my magic pipe," Ivan commented from behind you. Just like Alfred, he sounded as if he was just taking an easy stroll in the park.

You wanted to ask the Russian what did he mean by that, but you were too out of breath to say anything.

You nearly jumped when you heard the sound of a whip hitting the ground.

"No breakfast if you don't get back within 20 minutes!"

Ludwig's order had been your death sentence. Judging from the distance you had ran when you came out the station, there was simply no way you could get back in 20 minutes, in fact, you doubt even 40 minutes would be sufficient.

You inwardly blamed yourself for not exercising more before the experiment began.

"Hey, (Name), give me your hand!"

Alfred suddenly turned around and offered you his hand.

You hesitantly reached out toward him, not knowing what he's up to.

"Don't do that, (Name), he'll-"

It was too late, you didn't even have the time to scream as the American suddenly picked up speed and dragged you behind him. The two of you created a large gap between you and the main group quickly.

Alfred was almost like a meteor as he sped in the direction of the station. There were several times when you thought you were going to fall flat on your face, but somehow never did.

-

You sat on the ground, your breath still raspy and your lungs burned. Alfred was standing beside you, going on and on about him being the hero while laughing his signature laugh every once in a while.

In the distance, you saw the main group running toward you and waved at them wearily.

As everyone stretched around you, a bottle of water suddenly appeared in your vision.

You looked up to see Ivan smiling down at you.

"For you, dear sunflower."

You muttered a quick 'thank you' and took the offered water. It felt like heaven as it soothed your burning throat.

You looked around and noticed something amiss about the group.

"Where's Ludwig and the others?" You asked.

"He's running after Feliciano," Francis replied casually.

"Why is Feliciano being forced to run as well? I thought he's playing the role of an officer..." You trailed off in confusion

"It's Ludwig's personal habit," Ivan shrugged.

"One that he shouldn't have forced upon us," Arthur grumbled as he wiped the sweat off his face with the front of his shirt.

As everyone finished cool down and began to file in for breakfast, you tried to get up too, but your knees buckled under you.

"(Name!)!" Yao had been the last one to go in before you, the Chinese man turned around and ran toward you when he heard you fall to the ground.

"I'm ok, Yao, thank you."

You still felt weak, but you also felt that you've burdened the group enough so far and didn't want them to have to help you more.

Yao squatted before you.

"Get on, aru," he offered and you blushed.

"Y-You don't have to, I... I can walk on my own. You must be tired yourself," you trailed off, remembering how Yao had been out of breath as well during the run.

Yao chuckled, "I normally carry a panda on my back, aru. I don't mind. Now let's go before breakfast gets cold."

Unable to find another reason to reject his offer, you complied.

Yao set you down at the table that sat the other prisoners.

"(Name), are you ok?" Alfred stopped in his process of destroying a mountain of burgers and asked in concern.

"She's hurt from you dragging her around, brat."

Arthur glared at Alfred as he pulled out a chair for your to sit on.

"I'm so sorry, (Name)," Alfred pouted, his blue eyes sad as he looked down in shame.

"I'm ok! Don't worry about me! Actually, I have to thank Alfred, or else I won't be getting any breakfast!" You responded quickly, hoping to divert the subject.

The table become silent for a moment.

"Come to think of it, Ludwig is going overboard," Francis said.

You looked around the room quickly, relieved to find no officer around.

"I hate to agree with the frog, but he's right," Arthur grumbled and sat down next to you, putting a plate filled with (your favourite food) before you.

"Then why don't we jailbreak, da?"

Ivan's quiet suggestion drew everyone's attention to him.

There was a moment of silence and you watched everyone else's' expressions change in various ways.

"You can't be thinking-" You were interrupted as Alfred boomed.

"Let's do it! I will be the hero and save all of you!"

"You dummy!" Arthur stood up beside you.

The table erupted into comical arguments, and soon, food began to fly.

Francis shielded you from any food that had came toward you and mumbled under his breath about gourmet food being wasted.

It wasn't until when Ludwig, Feliciano and Kiku rushed to the scene did the commotion finally stop.

Still, you hoped that weren't serious when they said they were going to jail break.

As uncomfortable as this experiment is becoming, you didn't want to ruin it considering how much the researchers must have invested to keep this environment as realistic as they possibly could.

-

"Psst! You awake, (Name)?"

A hand shook your shoulder. Your rubbed your eyes and sat up wearily, only to realize your face was inches away from a floating glowing face.

"Hmmph!!!" You scooted backward, a hand over your mouth successfully muffled your scream.

"Chill, dudette, it's me!" Alfred began to laugh, only to be shushed harshly by Arthur.

"Quiet, dummy! And give me the stupid flashlight."

You heard a grumble and saw the light being passed.

"I don't see what's so scary about this..."

The light shot up from under Arthur's chin, illuminating his features, he looked no better than Alfred.

"Your caterpillar brows look even worse under the shadows!" Francis complained not-so-quietly.

"What did you say?"

The light shook wildly, your heard the sound of smacking but couldn't discern who smacked who.

WHACK! The sound was accompanied by the source of the light flying far from your bed. When it landed, the light flickered a few times and the whole area returned to darkness.

You heard Yao whisper, "aya! Now you've done it, ahen."

"What? Bu--"

You pulled the hand away from your mouth and exclaimed, "wait, why are you guys in my cell?"

You heard someone chuckle quietly in the dark.

"I'll tell you the details of how we managed to unlock the doors later, but right now, we are jail breaking, aru," Yao said from somewhere in the darkness. Your Chinese prison mate could hardly contain his excitement.

"You've got to be kidding me, I thought you were joking!" Your eyes widened in the dark, but you couldn't stop your own voice from quickening due to excitement even though you felt wrong about what you were going to do.

"We weren't, now get ready, because we are in trouble if they catch us now," Francis murmured close to your ear, but you doubt anyone could see him doing that since it's so dark.

You almost squealed when you felt yourself being lifted and swung onto a broad shoulder.

"Let's go, sunflower, watch my back for me, da."

In response, you began  to hit the Russian man's back in protest.

"This is wrong! We can't do this!"

"Hahaha, give it up, we are not leaving you here alone, (Name)!" Alfred laughed from the front.

"Oui, and each of us get a turn to carry you, Ohonhon."

"But the experiment would not work!" You protested again.

"Think of it this way, poppet, if you are left here alone, there's no way you'd be able to deal with everything alone. Or are you planning to betray us?"

You fell silent at Arthur's words.

"Don't be stupid, Arthur, (Name) is part of team hero, she's with us," Alfred laughed obliviously from the front again.

"I'm not saying she will betray us, just telling her about the consequences!" Arthur said quickly; after a moment, he muttered, "sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, love."

"None taken," you replied.

Arthur's words did give you some perspective. Perhaps keeping the group together should be your priority instead of worrying over an experiment that had left you feeling violated so far.

"Well, will you at least let me down? I can walk on my own you know."

"No way!" They all chorused together, making you sulk on Ivan's shoulder.

-

At some point, you have been passed off to Francis despite your protest to be let down.

Despite how Francis acted, he never touched you in any inappropriate manner.

In fact, you felt like the pervert by wrapping your legs around his waist tightly koala style while he held you tight to him, his mouth inches away from yours and you could feel him every time he breathed out.

"Hide!" Arthur suddenly whispered, he quickly backed from a turn he just made, prompting all of you to hide behind the wall as well.

You watched nervously as the light coming from an officer's flashlight came into your view.

You held your breath and you could tell that everyone else was doing the same. Seconds trickled by and the silence around you almost made you feel like you were the only one there.

Francis' arms tightened around you, reminding you that you weren't alone. You hid your face in the French man's chest, inwardly voicing your gratitude that the French man will likely never know.

As you waited for everything to be over, you prayed that you won't get caught.

It's ridiculous how real the situation had become when this was all supposed to be an experiment, but that's the reality now.

After what felt like forever, you lifted your head from Francis' chest, and at that precise moment, the officer passed the hallway you were all hiding in.

It was Kiku.

For a second, you thought he had looked your way, but the Japanese man strolled ahead as if nothing had happened.

-

Right now, you were being carried by Arthur bridal style, who has retreated to the center of the group instead of scouting ahead like before.

You have officially given up your protest after a few more failed attempts at trying to walk on your own.

All over you had been travelling down a long hallway when you suddenly froze.

Up ahead of you, you saw a flashlight rounding a turn and had to suppress an urge to scream.

You have gone too far down the long hallway without turns that even if you all run back now, you wouldn't make it to the next turn and hide in time.

So there you stood, frozen like deer in a headlight... make that a group of deer.

"Ve, what are you guys doing up so late~"

A flicker of hope appeared within you knowing it's Feliciano that has found you.

Even though you haven't had much contact with the officers in comparison to your fellow prison mates, you had the impression that Ludwig would be a lot harder to convince.

"Why, we are playing hide and seek," Francis laughed, but you could hear the nervousness underneath his forced casualness.

Even though Feliciano seemed innocent, he couldn't possibly be this gullibl-

"Ok!"

Never mind about that.

-

In the silent night, the six of you continued to advance... well, only five of you were walking anyways.

Like in the morning, Yao was carrying you on his back. You leaned your chin on the Asian man's shoulder, feeling your eyelids become heavy now that you were apparently near the exit.

"Wait!"

As soon as Arthur alerted the group, the six of you stopped and hid in a bush.

In the distance, you saw that the light in the guard office was still on.

"If we get pass here, we will be free." Francis said thoughtfully.

"But how do we get there without them seeing us?" Arthur questioned no one in particular.

"We just go, da?"

There was a rustle and your eyes widened when you noticed that the Russian has stood up blatantly.

"Hurray, death," Ivan muttered to no one in particular as he walked forward.

Yao face-palmed beside you.

"Wait for the hero!"

Just as Alfred was about to get up after him, Arthur stopped him.

"Check the situation first."

Following Arthur's advice, the five of you settled back in the bush (though Alfred retreated with some difficulty), ready to come to Ivan's aid as surprise ambush should the situation demand it.

The rest of you watched Ivan saunter up to the guard's officer, peer in and say something to the person inside, then, a flashlight was passed to him and he turned around and waved at all of you.

Confused and hesitant, the rest of you came out of hiding and walked toward him.

It turned out Feliciano had been the one in the office, and all Ivan needed to do to trick the Italian into giving him the flashlight was to tell him he lost the hide-and-seek game and needed to give up something as a result.

And with Feliciano as the guard at the door, the six of you had no problem leaving the prison... naturally.

-

The night was still long and dark. The six of you decided to stay as a group until you can get to a road and each get a cab to go home.

Alfred carried you fireman style. You could tell that he still felt guilty for dragging you through the mud before, considering how many times he's asked you if you are feeling fine, but you patiently reassured him anyways.

You traveled down the forest path that you had ran through in the morning.

It's unclear how long you've been walking  and how much distance is still left.

You would not admit it to the others, but if you were given the choice to change things in the past, you would have still participated in this experiment if it meant the chance to get to know your new friends.

In your sheltered life growing up, this may have been the most exciting thing you've ever done yet.

You had plans to connect to these people afterward, maybe get their numbers? Or perhaps you could connect via Facebook?

But you were not out of danger yet.

Suddenly, light rain down upon you from above.

You turned around, eyes squinting to look up, only for them to widen a second later as you saw a helicopter hover over you.

"Stop moving!" A voice thick with German accent demanded from the sky.

"Move!" Arthur shouted, but everyone was already running, Alfred being the first even though he was carrying you.

In the commotion, you heard Yao exclaim, "aya! Why are you here, aru?"

Then an unexpected voice came from within your group, "Ludwig caught me drawing on his books, now he's after me too!"

Your heart began to pump harder as you heard the sound of choppers getting closer to you.

"Hahaha, hail the conquering hero!"

That's when you felt Alfred trip over a rock and heard him yelp. The next thing you knew, you were both falling forward...

-

Your eyes flew open and you thrust out your arms frantically.

It took a moment for you to realize that everything had been a dream, and that you were safe in your bed this whole time.

You lied down, feeling the sensation of your heart beating rapidly in your chest.

You looked at the clock, it was much earlier than when you would normally wake up, but you were too alert to feel tired, not to mention you had suspect that you'd forget the dream if you were to fall back asleep now.

You dragged your feet to the washroom, looking at yourself wearily in the mirror as you brushed your teeth.

Suddenly, the doorbell began to ring frantically and loudly, causing you to almost drop your toothbrush.

Oh dear...

The original Stanford Experiment terminated because the subjects selected to be officers were going overboard and causing direct hard to the subjects selected to be prisoners, but what would happen had the subjects for both prisoners and officers changed to our beloved nations from Hetalia?

*WARNING: I'm NOT trying to make fun of the Stanford Experiment. It's often used as one of the main examples of experiment involving humans that have failed to adhere to ethical standards. I don't own any of the characters, they belong to Hetalia creator.
The picture is found here: www.zerochan.net/746285
This plot is loosely related to what may have happened during the Stanford Prison Experiment but come nothing close to it in my opinions because I wasn't trying to go for something psychologically dark with this one shot.
After obsessing over the Akatsuki from Naruto for so long, I'm afraid I'm slipping on my understanding of Hetalia, I had to refamiliarize myself with their speaking habits and I'm spelled Ludwig as "Lugwig" more times than I'm willing to admit >.> However, I continued to believe that Francis is not a rapist, and you are free to disagree with me, but of all the things that I've done that may make a character seem OOC to you, that's the one thing I did on purpose.

This is so cool >w<
I like how you turn the ending like that xD
Feli how can you do this?! You were not supposed to- oh well...

I have a feeling that Kiku did see the group but let it pass too see what will happen. He feels like the guys to seem strict but when time calls for it, he bends rules.
